The great thing about collecting fine bone china is that it is designed to be used. There really is no better a collection than one you can show off regularly. Even if you use your fine bone china often, with just a little care and attention it will last and last.

When washing your fine china you will want to wash it by hand. The dishwasher detergents though great for casual dinnerware, can harm your china dishes. These detergents can be corrosive and if you have gold trim on your dishes these soaps may remove your beautiful edging.

When you need to store your fine bone china it is always good to have a small piece of material between each piece so as not to scratch them. I simply use my good cloth table napkins, this way when I next go to use my china next the table linen and china are in the same place. Another option, though it is a little more costly is to buy china storage containers. They are not very expensive and are well padded, many fine china merchants sell these right in their sites. This also applies to if you choose to display a china piece. There are several options for wall display, wooden plate shelves, individual plate racks etcetera. However it is still important to look at each device and see if they have felt buffer already in place, where your plate or cups are in contact with the holder.

Now I'm sure you know that fine bone china can be expensive. So recommending that you have your table ware insured won't come as a surprise. One never knows what will happen. My insurance company recommended that I keep all my receipts and take pictures to ensure that I will be able to replace my china should the unthinkable happen. You will simply need to contact your insurer to have a rider attached to your already existing policy.
